Anthony Weight DCFA

Anthony Weight(right), a volunteer highly engaged with DCFA in Cornwall, drove this 20 year old Peugeot 206 across Spain while dressed to look like a 'Brexit negotiations team', bowler hat and all! Between the 6th and 3th of October, Anthony gave up his time to be a part of The Banger Rally Challenge - Vegas or Bust, which was excellently organised by St.Austell Round Table. Anthony raised almost £300 for the Cornwall Hub of DCFA and made sure to send as many pictures home of his his exploits in the suit and bowler hat while away.

Anthony started at 6.30pm on Thursday 6th of October with a trip to Roscoff via ferry. From there, Anthony drove 500 miles in the (somewhat) trusty Peugeot 206 to Biarritz, before then continuing on through the Pyrenees and heading on to Las Vegas in Spain. The total trip was well over 1150 miles and we appreciate every single mile.

Well done Anthony!

Fundraising Rally goes all the Way - Anthony

Would you do it?

Would you travel to Spain and drive well over 1150 miles in the name of Charity? What about something equally courageous like a book sale or even a bake sale using surplus food? If the answer is yes, you're our kind of person and should definitely fill out the contact form below and let us know what you're planning on doing and if there is any way we can help you!

Need some inspiration?

Charity Fundraising

Below is an alphabetical list of a few of our ideas to get you in the mood to do a bit of fundraising (hopefully for us!), we home you like them as much as we do!

A is for Auction

Have you ever rummaged through your attic or garage and found items that you don't want to get rid of because you know they're worth more than few quid, but you also know those bits and bobs are prohibiting you from using the space?  Why don't you try putting it in a local auction house or online (like Ebay) and donate the money into a local charity?

B is for Banger Rally

Much like Anthony did, you could give driving a banger about (or a much nicer car, if you have access to such a thing) a go!

C is for Car Boot

We know its an obvious one, but it's certainly one of easiest ones to achieve for those of you who have garages full to the brim of old furniture, clothes, bags, boxes, DVD's, video tapes (for the retro ones out there), or even just those who want to get rid of bric & brac.

D is for Dinner Party

Why don't you give your local shop a visit and see if they've got anything they'd be willing to donate, which would otherwise be going in a bin, to get involved in some fine dining to raise funds!

E is for Egg race

Eggs that appear to be far past their sell by date are still excellent to be used in an egg and cup race, particularly with the added motivation that if you drop one it smells particularly awful! Even food that is no longer edible can still have a purpose.

F is for Fun Run

Fancy yourself as an athletic type? Do you reckon you could still keep up in a long distance run while dressed as a panda? Or a spice girl?

G is for Guess the Weight

A carnival and local fate classic, why don't you fill a bin with your households food waste for a week and give it a weigh? Offer a prize for the person that guesses closest to the weight, and give yourself a bit of a shock as to how much you chuck out in the process!

H is for Home cooking

There is absolutely nothing better than home made cooking, but do you reckon you could do it with just surplus food? Here's a tip from the lovely Vicky of The Junk Food Project, the juice from chickpeas and various other peas/beans is an excellent egg replacement in cake. You're welcome!

I is for Inventing

Are you a bit nifty with a paint brush or a hammer? If so, why not give making something a go and then donating the money you make to a charity of your choice?

J is for Juicing

We're not talking about the diet type of juicing, but more the chucking-any-fruit-and-veg-that's-about-to-be-binned-in-a-juicer type of juicing. Why not freeze your fruit and veggies and then blend them and sell them at an event, or even just to friends and family?

K is for Knitting

Are you a bit nifty when it comes to wool? Why not knit up some pretty things to be sold on Etsy or at a car boot and then give a percentage of the return to a charity of your choosing?

L is for Litter picking

The amount of work you could do on a Sunday with a few friends could make a world of difference for your local community, and I don't doubt that they would be willing to sponsor you to do it!

M is for Musical evenings

A music show is an excellent way to not only reveal some hidden talents, but also raise some money and, in turn, give back to your local community! Why not get your guitar, or triangle, out in the name of charity?

N is for Name the country

Another very typical game that is very effective, with a bit of a twist. In this game, people pay to have a try at naming where certain countries sit on a nameless map with the hope of receiving a prize for them and a lovely bit of funding to go back into your local community.

O is for Open garden

If you're a keen gardener, why not open your beautiful garden up for the rest of the world to see in return for donations?

P is for Pancakes

How well can you cook pancakes? What about i you were only able to use surplus food? And do you think they would be edible? If the answers to all of the above are 'yes', I would say this might be a perfect fundraising idea for you!

Q is for Quiz night

I feel like this one kind of explains itself, but if you want to go one step further, a food-waste quiz might be perfect.

R is for Raft Race

If you were on a deserted island, what items would you use to build a raft? Admittedly this task might be a bit more fun as a competition, in somewhere like Cornwall, which is why we think you should give it a try to raise some funds.

S is for Skydive

Another obvious one, I know, but jumping from a terrifyingly high height from a plane is no doubt an excellent reason for someone to sponsor you!

T is for Trampolining

Not quite a plane, but a trampolining session, for donations rather than the venue, would be an excellent way to raise some funds.

U is for Uniform-free day

A particularly popular one in schools, this is also applicable to the office. Why not seek permission to go without uniform for the day, and in return request donations for charity?

V is for Vehicle Rally

Anthony (see above) is an excellent role model for this one, why not give his story a read and see if that gives you some ideas?

W is for Waste-Food Week

At DCFA, our main priority is ensuring that food that shouldn't go in the bin, doesn't. So why don't you give this a go too and see if you could live off just surplus food for a week, sponsored of course.

X is for XMas Party

Tis' the season to be jolly (tra la la la la), or maybe not if you're reading this is any other month than December. Still, hosting a Christmas party in return for donations might just be the thing to get started on about now.

Y is for Yoga

If you say you don't love a bit of yoga, you're clearly lying to yourself! Not only is it an excellent way of partaking in exercise, it's also an excellent way to raise some money for charity! Why not hold a yoga beginners class?

Z is for Zip Wire

Feeling brave, but not quite brave enough to jump out of plane? Zip Wires can be found across the country, just like the one at Adrenaline Quarry in Menheniot, which might allow you to use their very high standing and somewhat scary (particularly for those of us who are terrified of heights) apparatus to raise money for a charity of your choice.
